Palestrante:Dr. Klaus Rischka (Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials, Bremen, Germany)
Abstract:
Design of material surfaces functionalized with bioactive compounds has seen a rapid growth in industries such as biomedical, textiles, microelectronics, bioprocessing and food packaging in the last decade. In the field of biomaterials there is a broad need to render functionalization to prevent the bacterial surface attachment and growth to avoid infections and devices failure. Antimicrobial peptides show a broad range of activity against bacteria, fungi and even viruses. The immobilization of these peptides by maintaining the antimicrobial function is a challenge for both industrial and medical applications. The modes of action for antimicrobial peptides are still discussed and need to be clarified.
