Seminário do DFA: "Measuring and controlling the charge state of molecules on insulating films"

Abstract:

In the past two decades, experiments concerning few monolayer (ML) insulating films revealed different physical properties of single adsorbates. Amongst them are charge state determination and control of Au adatoms (1) and charge distribution within a molecule (2). But in order to efficiently decouple the system of interest from the metal substrate, a several nanometer thick insulating film is required – creating the need to better characterize adsorbates on these films (3).

Here we present results concerning molecules and their charge state determination and control via atomic force microscopy and kelvin probe force microscopy measurements on NaCl films ranging from 5 to 20 ML and demonstrate lateral single electron transfer between molecules (4).
