Seminário: Optics Research at Corning Inc - Dr. Aleksandra Boskovic (Senior Research Director - Corning, NY, USA)

Abstract: For more than 160 years, Corning has applied its unparalleled expertise in specialty glass, ceramics, and optical physics to develop products and processes that have created new industries and transformed people’s lives. Corning’s businesses span areas such as Optical Communications, Display technologies, Specialty Materials and more. In this talk, I’ll give a brief overview of Corning’s history, current businesses and technology areas. I’ll also describe in more detail the areas of research in Optics that we are currently pursuing – optical fiber, connectivity, in-door wireless systems, laser processing and displays.

About the Speaker: Dr. Aleksandra Boskovic received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics from the Physics Department at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She received a M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Optical Physics from the Physics Department at Imperial College, UK in the area of fiber non-linearities and short pulse fiber lasers. Dr. Boskovic also holds an Executive MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, USA. Aleksandra joined Corning’s Research center in 1997 as a Sr. Scientist working on the field of Optical Communications Systems. Later, Aleksandra held several technical leadership positions at Corning including leading the Optics Modeling organization in Research, the Fiber Development organization and Corning’s European Technology Center in Europe. Nowadays, Dr. Aleksandra Boskovic is a senior leader for Corning Research in areas related to optics, surfaces, thin films and integration technologies. She helps set strategic direction, delivers new product concepts, and provides fundamental understanding to a wide breath of Corning’s businesses, such as Corning Optical Communications, Corning Display Technologies and Corning Specialty Materials.
